Teen Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Use Drops Again in the U.S.
Teen drug, alcohol, and tobacco use in the U.S. continues to decline, according to a new Monitoring the Future survey. Conducted by the University of Michigan, the study found record-high abstinence rates among students in grades 8, 10, and 12.
Despite expectations that substance use would rebound after the pandemic, it has dropped even further. In the past 30 days, 66% of 12th graders, 80% of 10th graders, and 90% of 8th graders reported no use of alcohol, marijuana, cigarettes, or e-cigarettes—marking the highest rates of abstinence ever recorded by the survey.
