Study Finds Legal Weed Cuts Job Injury Costs and Prescription Use
A new study shows that while legalizing marijuana slightly increases the number of workers’ comp claims, it actually lowers the cost per claim and reduces the use of prescription drugs—especially opioids.
The research, from the Workers Compensation Research Institute (WCRI), highlights the mixed but promising impact of adult-use cannabis laws on workplace injuries and healthcare costs. Legal weed might not reduce accidents, but it seems to help workers recover more affordably and with fewer heavy-duty meds.
