New independent analysis shows legalising recreational cannabis could bring in $700 million a year for Australia’s budget, according to fresh figures from the Parliamentary Budget Office.

While lower than past estimates, the Greens remain committed to pushing for legal weed in the next parliament after their proposal was blocked by Labor and the Coalition in 2024.

“We want adults to have the freedom to make their own choices,” said Greens senator David Shoebridge. “Imagine relaxing at a cannabis café or picking up from a local dispensary—that’s the future we see.”
